About

Headcorn Aerodrome is one of the few remaining grass strip airfields in Kent. There is always something happening whether it be a parachutist, the helicopters, some of the fascinating planes coming and going or people departing on pleasure flights. Sometimes you even get the Spitfires taking off and landing and for some, there is nothing more nostalgic than listening to the Merlin engines.

Entry to the airfield is free however events are charged at the gate. Nevertheless, you can turn up any day and enjoy the scenery, the coming and goings and take a trip to the café.

Pleasure flights in a light aircraft are great fun and you can book these on the Headcorn Aerodrome website. Aeroplanes take 3 people plus the pilot, enabling you and your friends or family to explore Kent from the Air. Great places to see are Dover Dock, Camber Sands amongst many others. A popular run is the two castles tour, taking in Leeds Castle and Bodium Castle.

Skydiving is a very popular sport and something which many people want to try at least once in their life time. Skydive Headcorn offers three different training courses for first time jumpers - Static Line Parachuting, Accelerated Freefall and Tandem Skydiving. All courses and instructors are qualified by the British Parachute Association. Charity Tandem Skydivers are also welcome. Some 500,000 parachute descents have been made since the founding of Skydive Headcorn in 1978. If you chose to do this make sure you get your jump captured on DVD and photographs.

Headcorn Aerodrome also host hot air balloon launches and it is a great place to start your journey from. Flights are generally early morning or early evening. Whilst you may have to go where the wind takes you, flights frequently head in the direction of castles and attractions giving superb views from the air.

Aero Legends operate out of Headcorn, where you can fly in a Tiger Moth, a Harvard and then a Spitfire which is an incredible experience.

If you are considering learning to fly a helicopter then Thurston Helicopters fly out of Headcorn Aerodrome too. They can provide trial flights, lessons, business and pleasure flights.

Other great things on the site are the interesting Lashenden Air Warfare Museum, the Holding Point Café, which you have to share with the pilots, and the Wings Bar and Restaurant is great fun, full of memorabilia.

Please note, a visit here can be slightly weather dependent.
