    Maidstone has a long military history and indeeds still has barracks. One of the stations is called Maidstone Barracks. Here are some old photographs from WW1 and WWll. Mostly they are of civilians doing their best for the war effort.

  • Maidstone bridge comprised five arches from the 14th Century and was updated in the late 1870's and comprised three arches.  This allowed more of the barges to pass beneath and improved the access by road over the top.

    One of the most beautiful and best kept secrets in Kent is the River Medway and its amazing history, diversity and incredible wildlife.  It is quiet and serene and makes a fantastic day of waterside walking and with railway stations close by, getting the train to the start or the end of your walk is no problem.
