Family Friendly Things to Do

Maidstone is a great destination for a holiday because there are so many family fun things to do. You can create an exciting day out in Kent for everyone to enjoy.  There is adventure and activity in watersports, trampolining, high rope adventures, Segway tours, electric bikes and more. Or if you like to do something a bit more relaxing or educational, there are some great museums, historic houses and castles to explore.

If you love getting outside then you will be sure to find many great outdoor activities to do in Maidstone.  Don't miss a river cruise on the Kentish Lady River Boat or renting a canoe and exploring the River Medway. Try hiring an electric bike to explore the Kent countryside, or feeding farm animals at Kent Life Heritage Farm Park. Or you might like climbing, jumping and zip-wiring at Go-Ape around the treetops in the grounds of Leeds Castle.

With over one third of the Borough being an area of outstanding natural beauty, there are some fantastic walking and cycling routes (downloadable maps) with stunning views along the North Downs. Maidstone's many beautiful parks and gardens, such as Mote Park are good to explore.

If you are looking for value for money, look for those attractions with free admission such as Thurnham Castle, White Horse Country Park, Cobtree Manor Park and Maidstone Museum. Discovering the North Downs, the wildlife, with a kite and a picnic is also great fun.

Exploring the River is a good fun family day out. You can hire a self-drive boat for the day or may be book a canoe safari.  The 22km cycle route along the river banks provides lots of exercise with good places top stop along the way for refreshments. A perfect day out for those with lots of energy.

Sometimes some of the small attractions offer not only great value for money but great experiences, particularly in meeting some of the animals along the way.  Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats and Little Fant Farm offer some good interactive experiences.

If you brought your bikes on holiday stop off at Mote Park's BMX track.  You can hone skills here for hours, have amazing fun, and it costs nothing.
