In The Heart Of Town
Tucked between Maidstone East Station and Maidstone Museum, Brenchley Gardens provides an oasis of calm in the heart of the town. The formal gardens are a haven for wildlife, and there are plenty of seats to rest your legs after all that shopping in the surrounding streets. The Maidstone Millennium River Park stretches 10km from Teston picnic site, through the town centre and on to Allington Lock. Stop off at Whatman Park along the way to explore the nature reserve and children’s play areas.
Mote Park
Just a short walk from the town centre is Maidstone’s largest open space, Mote Park. This Grade II listed Park has a history going back to the Middle Ages and was voted runner-up in the People’s Choice for their Favourite Green Flag Park in 2023. It covers over 450 acres of mature parkland, including a 30 acre lake, and provides a wide range of recreational activities. Mote Park is a great place to walk around, exercise or just sit and watch the world go by.
In The Countryside
To the north of the town, Cobtree Manor Park has over 50 acres of parkland incorporating a diverse collection of trees and shrubs. There is a lot to explore in the Park and it is also an excellent base and access point to the North Downs Way. At the top of the Downs, White Horse Wood Country Park offers some stunning views of the county. With beautiful countryside and historic castle ruins to explore, it is an ideal location for a family picnic.
