We were fortunate enough to take some time out of the office and take a wander down to Mote Park in Maidstone, Kent earlier this week. As we took a stroll around, the sun shone brightly - no matter how fleetingly - in a blue sky, transforming the green fields and diverse plants into magnificent, colourful vistas.
Sometimes it takes something as simple as a brisk walk to remind us of just how fortunate we are in Maidstone to have such an area like Mote Park available to us all. Whether it's for a summer picnic or watersports on the lake, live music festivals to a gentle walk with the dog, Mote Park is the perfect destination to discover.
Here are five reasons why you should never fail to miss Mote Park on a visit to Kent.

Creating the perfect environment in which to relax and unwind, to tuck into a delicious picnic or to walk the dog, the scenery of Mote Park speaks for itself and will prove enticing to residents and visitors alike. Mote Park is also the home of an abundance of diverse creatures and wildlife, from the regal swans on the lake, the hedgehogs nestled beneath the undergrowth to the bats that fleet through the sky at dusk and huge variety of creepy crawlies.
2. The Activities
There is plenty for the whole family to get stuck into at Mote Park to make a fun-filled, adventurous day out. Maybe visit the lake for a selection of watersports such as sailing, kayaking, canoeing, raft building, and more! You may even choose to take everyone out on a swan pedalo to explore the lake and brilliant wildlife that surrounds it throughout summer. Newly built, the fully equipped play area and skate park is situated right next to the Mote Park café and provides the perfect opportunity for the kids to let off steam while you enjoy a drink and choice of delicious hot or cold food. Also brand new to Mote Park is the exciting Adventure Zone, featuring Segways, Mini Golf, High Ropes and Rock Climbing – test your courage and tackle all that’s on offer at this outdoor adventure zone.
3. The History
It may often go overlooked, but the history of Mote Park is both rich and intriguing. Originally the main water source for an ancient Roman villa, more recent years saw the region house a magnificent country estate, with Mote Park House the focal point for development. Today, the entire estate is open to the public, and represents one of the finest areas to discover across the Maidstone borough, with visitors fascinated by the history and heritage present in the park.
4. The Events
The calendar of events happening in Mote Park changes from year to year, with an eclectic selection of activities taking place all year round. One of summer's most exciting events, for example, is the Ramblin’ Man Fair, featuring a number of the most recognisable names from the world of classic rock, thousands upon thousands of fans descend on Mote Park for a weekend of live music and entertainment. Other unique Mote Park events this year include tribute festival ‘Rock the Mote’, 80’s 90’s & 00’s dance festival and a brand new Ice Park Christmas ice-skating event.

From the children's play areas to the watersports facilities, wide open spaces in which to soak up the summer sun, to the ice-cream van and café for refreshments, Mote Park provides a little bit of something for everyone.
