Fruit picking is a fun activity for all ages to enjoy. Across the season you will find an array of things to pick, from summer strawberries, raspberries and cherries to autumn apples, pears and pumpkins. Kent, with its rich and fertile soil, is one of the best places in the world to find fresh fruits and vegetables, also renowned for its orchards ripe with award-winning apple, pear and cherry varieties (it's not called the Garden of England for nothing!) Here are a list of PYO farms to visit in and around Maidstone this season!

Milebush Farm

Shingle Barn Ln, West Farleigh, Maidstone ME15 0PL

Milebush Farm is a small family-run business which is more commonly known for its pumpkin picking in October. The farm is open from early June through to October for PYO, with a selection of fruits available including strawberries, raspberries, loganberries and currents. Punnets of freshly picked fruit and free range eggs are also available from the farm shop. Open Monday – Saturday 9am - 5pm and Sundays 9am – 4pm.

Downingbury

Maidstone Rd, Pembury, Tunbridge Wells TN2 4AD

A wide variety of PYO fruit is available from Downingbury Farm throughout the season. Starting with strawberries and raspberries in June, blackcurrents and redcurrents in July, plums in August, finishing the season with a variety of award-winning Kent apple varieties in September. Picking fields are open daily from 9:00am to 3:45pm throughout the year. An array of fresh produce as well as light refreshments are available to buy from the Farm Shop and café.

Lower Ladysden Farm and Maize Maze 

Winchet Hill, Goudhurst TN17 1JX

At Lower Ladysden PYO you can pick up an array of delicious fruits and vegetables, simply head to the farm shop to grab a punnet and pick! Asparagus is available from late April to late June, strawberries available throughout May to late August, raspberries and blackberries from June to August with runner beans available from June to July. A range of fresh produce including fruit and vegetables, jams, cakes, ice-cream and potted fruit plants also available from the farm shop.

Chilton Manor Farm

Chilton Manor Farm, Highsted Rd, Sittingbourne ME9 0AA
Chilton Manor Farm is a family farm and shop situated in the beautiful Kent countryside near Sittingbourne. The farm boasts a huge variety of fruit to pick or purchase throughout the year and you can guarantee something delicious in every month. From strawberries, raspberries, apples and pears to sweetcorn, plums and pumpkins and much more! The farm is open from late May to October, Tuesday – Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Brogdale Farm

Brogdale Rd, Faversham ME13 8XZ

Brogdale Farm usually run a number of fruity events throughout the year including the; Strawberry Fair, Cherry Fair, Plum Day, Pear Day and Apple Festival. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 some of this year’s events have been cancelled, but Brogdale has currently reopened its orchards for special self-guided Cherry Orchard Walks! You will be able to enjoy a serene nature walk through the beautiful cherry orchards following a map, or mobile app. Booking is essential and must be made through their website, where you can also keep an eye out for future events.
