Part 2 of the interesting photographs of Maidstone features a number of events which the town hosted. Some can be accurately dated others are more approximate.

Visit from the Duke and Duchess of York 8th June 1929

This was obviously a big occasion on what is now Jubilee Square.

Circus Parade

It's now unimaginable to have performing lions, which were caged for transport.

Circus Parade elephants

Imagine how tricky and event of this type would be today.  No barriers between the animals and the crowd. Let alone the elephants possibly getting out of control.

Maidstone Tramway opened 1094

This must have been and exciting event.  Loads of people turned up.Opening of the new Maidstone Bridge 1879

An event which would have been an engineering achievement and fantastic for getting trade across the river.

Building decorated for the Coronation of Edward Vll

This building went all out for the decoration for the Coronation of Edward Vll

Parade for the Coronation of Edward Vll

And there was a parade as well for the Coronation of Edward Vll
